Tour to Tortuguero National Park
A must-do in Costa Rica a tour to the turtles in the Tortuguero National Park
In the Tortuguero National Park you can find an incredible biological diversity
The “Tortuguero National Park” is located in the northeast of Costa Rica, in the Limón province and can only be reached by boat or plane.
The national park offers an endless variety of landscape and climate conditions, a dream: tropical rainforests, beaches, alluvial plains, lagoons, rivers, caños - just to list some of the landscape forms.
The tropical, very humid climate with rainfall of almost 6000 mm per year lives up to the name “rainforest”. You can almost guarantee rain. The park borders the Caribbean, whose beaches provide nesting grounds for endangered turtle species, especially the large leatherback turtle. The nesting sites have been actively protected for a good 30 years, and visitors can watch spawning in the months of July to September - but the protection of the animals is the priority. Entering the beaches at night is not permitted without a guide.
Manatís (sea cows) have been seen in the waters of the national park, as well as caimans, crocodiles and several species of snakes, frogs and lizards . The forests are home to the jaguar, sloths and three of the four species of monkeys that are resident in Costa Rica (the spider monkey , the howler monkey and the capuchin monkey ). Almost 440 different species of birds, including the green macaw, have been spotted, over 400 tree and almost 3000 plant species .
To enter the national park you have to pay a fee of $15 + VAT - this fee benefits the conservation of the national park. We strongly recommend taking a trip to Tortuguero with a professional operator. You have the guarantee that the protection of the national park and the animals is the priority, the tours are balanced and you get a lot of information. The costs are lower than renting your own boat. Of course, you can't assume that you'll be the only visitor to such an interesting place. It is all the more important that visitors are guided so that the environment is preserved and not destroyed through the visit.
We offer tours to Tortuguero in one of the clearest camps in the area: one, two or three day tours, with the three day tour being the most recommended - from Posada Nena Santa Ana and ending, for example, at Posada Nena in the Caribbean. But of course we can also program the end so that a rental car is handed over after the tour or another destination is driven to. We will then take care of further transport and connecting bus. We also offer a visit to the Tortuguero National Park in conjunction with our tours.
Our camp is one of the most natural and familiar camps in the Tortuguero National Park. Relatively clear, great guides and a bit away from the hustle and bustle of the many visitors, but still within a reasonable distance from the town of Tortuguero, which you can reach on foot along the beach. Highly recommended!
