About Us

Posada Nena and alautentico Tours SA - we take care of your vacation in Costa Rica and neighboring countries

Why Posada Nena?

Posada Nena is strategically located in close proximity to Juan Santamaria International Airport, the historic capital of San José and many of the natural attractions of the Central Valley.
our family

Our little family has grown fond of traveling. We love exploring the world, discovering new things and sharing our discoveries with people who also love authentic countries and people.

We founded our first Posada Nena in 1989 in Carúpano, Venezuela. "We" are Minerva (1965) and Volker (1966) Alsen; the former from Barcelona, Venezuela, the latter from Wiesbaden in Hesse. Posada Nena started in a beach house with 3 mattresses on the floor and a pool table. Located on an attractive but previously completely unknown sandy beach near Carúpano in the east of Venezuela.

After years of detailed work and with the support of both families, we have built one of the most famous guesthouses in the country from the 3 rooms - a must on every adventure trip through the beautiful South American country of Venezuela. At the same time, we got to know the country and the continent thoroughly on numerous trips and expeditions. One of the results of these trips was our first travel guide about Venezuela, the travel know-how from the publisher of the same name. Further titles followed in the coming years.
Unfortunately, in 2009 the political situation in Venezuela became unbearable. Meanwhile our family had grown to four people - with Nataly (2000) and Sebastian (2002). We decided to change our adopted home for reasons of safety and education. Away from the beach in the wild east of Venezuela and into the mountains and green nature of Costa Rica.
Today, with our Posada Nena in Santa Ana, Costa Rica, we offer travelers from all over the world a beautiful, safe and friendly haven to start an exciting and authentic journey through Costa Rica. Our children are now of age (the picture next to it is a little older) and will soon be out of the house - we are holding the fort here and continue to travel a lot, explore the world and of course are always there for our guests.

The philosophy behind Posada Nena and alautentico is about sustainability, honesty and real experience - supplemented with comprehensive knowledge of the culture, habits and nature of our countries. No mass tourism, no large groups, but authentic people living their life's work. We carefully select our local partners for our travel offers and ensure that we implement a common idea. Every traveler who has traveled with us over the last three decades can confirm this. We also hear again and again from our local partners how special “our guests” are - i.e. you. Anyone who has read this far and would like to experience Costa Rica or Panama with our support would be a good fit for us and our network.

Due to my work as a travel writer and as the person responsible for various travel guides about our countries, I of course travel a lot and know the countries, landscapes and people very intensively. This intensive travel activity not only takes you to the well-known highlights, but also to destinations that are much less well-known, but not necessarily less exciting. We like to include destinations in our travel suggestions that hardly anyone knows about - but of course we also combine this with the “big attractions”. And even with these “attractions” there are usually options for a “real experience” away from the hustle and bustle.
Due to the COVID-19 crisis in 2020, traveling has of course become different. But right now Costa Rica offers itself as a safe and healthy travel destination: no large groups, no mass events, everything in the fresh air and in the great outdoors in mini groups and with the highest hygienic standards. And now without any restrictions.

Here you can see two newspaper articles that appeared about us in a Wiesbaden daily newspaper . Here is the second one from 2020 .

Contact for Europe

As part of my tourism studies in Germany, I ventured out of Europe to explore new cultures, but it turned into so much more. Costa Rica, this small and beautiful spot on Earth, has captivated me. There is so much to experience, and I have explored many hidden corners, so I am happy to assist with any questions regarding traveling in Costa Rica.

A little more about us.

Our small family has a deep love for travel. We enjoy exploring the world, discovering new places, and sharing our findings with people who also appreciate authentic countries and cultures. We founded our first Posada Nena in 1989 in Carúpano, Venezuela. "We" are Minerva (1965) and Volker (1966) Alsen; the former hails from Barcelona, Venezuela, and the latter from Wiesbaden in Hessen. Our story.

Through years of hard work and with the support of both families, we transformed the initial 3 rooms into one of the most well-known guesthouses in the country - a must-visit on every adventure through the breathtaking South American country of Venezuela. In parallel, we extensively explored the country and the continent through numerous journeys and expeditions. One of the results of these travels was our first travel guide about Venezuela, published by Reise-Know-How. More titles followed in the years to come.

Our reality.

Unfortunately, in 2009, the political situation in Venezuela became unbearable. By then, our family had grown to four members - with Nataly (2000) and Sebastian (2002). For reasons of safety and education, we made the decision to change our adopted home. We moved away from the beach in the wild east of Venezuela and into the mountains and the green nature of Costa Rica. Today, with our Posada Nena in Santa Ana and Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, we offer travelers from all over the world a beautiful, safe, friendly, and authentic journey through Costa Rica. Our children are now studying and working in Europe.
